Hi chess friends,
First post here. First of all, i want to say that i love lichess.org and it is really the best! I have some thoughts about correspondance games on lichess. As an experienced ICCF player, i love this feature! However, i have a question. Since lichess doesn't seem to mention if the engines are allowed or not for this format, i will ask my corr. opponents if they want to use it or not when we start the game.
Here are some thoughts and background informations for those who don't know what is the ICCF and what would be the point of allowing engines or not. www.iccf.com/Default.aspx
The ICCF is the equivalent of the FIDE but for correspondance chess. The term itself is perhaps outdated and should be called "distance advanced chess" or something like that since it covers server, email and postal chess. Why did the ICCF allowed engines to be used and what is the point of playing chess with engines? I believe the ICCF saw that the engines would become more popular and stronger and it would be impossible to stop and to implement rules to stop it. That would create a witch hunt, etc Instead they allowed it and the "mentality" behind "correspondance chess" is like this: you can ask Kasparov and use all the engines that you want, if i lose the game, it is because i made a mistake. I have to figure out what is the mistake and this is how i will get better. Sorry for the long post. I hope i made sense.
Please let me know what you guys think about that. Thanks.
