If lichess approve the use of steel chairs during the tag team match I am in!!
I'm leaning on the side of disagreement of two very strong players consulting each other and playing very strongly. One GM is strong enough but two?! Seems very disappointing. IMHO they should discuss moves after they've been made rather than before.
P.S - The educational value is very high but I don't think many people would be content knowing that the rules are being broken and being displayed on the front page.
There is a fun chess variant where a team of 2 players, one weak and one is strong plays against another team of 2 where one is weak and one is strong. The team members cannot consult each other. The moves alternate between team members. first move is master, the opponent master replies, amateur moves, amateur replies, then masters move again and it continues until the game ends. The other rules are standard chess rules. Can lichess implement this?
ChessJuice is an excellent channel and very instructional, GM and IM consulting each other while playing provides much more instructional content and If you lose you should be happy to have a GM and IM commentating on your games and providing suggestions, as far as cheating is concerned, yes this is a form of external help but I think it doesnt affect the game too much, @ kingscrusher this was a friendly tournament based on fun and to a certain degree prestige and if Tal wanted he could have beserked all games and finished first anyways however he decided to provide more instructional content to viewers and it is clear that his aim was to improve the quality of stream and not to cheat. but it seems like some people just like to WIN friendly tournaments like this for people like this it might be a form of cheating but seriously guys you want to improve more than win usually. just as an eg no offence to anyone kingscrusher has been stuck on the same rating for the last 9 yrs and this is because he concentrate much more on winning compared to learning.
Well, I will never play a tournament anymore then, it's very simple. Allowing this is SO far against the rules of chess or any sporting event - absolutely not acceptable to have players consult during the game. To allow that is completely crazy.
@IM ChessExplained You need to play in lots of tournaments and win them to gain fame and find students who agree to pay you $70 USD / hour.
I completely agree with #18. Tag teaming can result in finding the best move in less time. I suggest that if you want to tag team a guy (lol) then during the tournament you should have to double beserk to make it fair to the opponent(without giving the tag team extra points). If your opponent is consulting as well then no beserking needed unless wanted. I know an argument can be made that gm don't even know the best moves and IM's are even worse. However, we're playing people not computers in this situation.
I'm sorry if anyone thinks I am too low rated to have a respectable opinion on this, but I would like to say that it is a bit nonsensical to ask for consultation to be labeled as cheating or marked on a player's page. The simple fact is that if you won the games played against these players working together, knowing they were doing such, you would likely not have complained. Or, for example, if it were two 1300s working together, you would mark them off as insignificant. But because they were strong, and because you couldn't beat them working together, it becomes a problem. They didn't have to ask for permission, nor did they have to show that they were coordinating at all. It is vital that you not forget that this is all just moot. It is only an online rating, this site exists to entertain and educate, and it is your own prerogative to take it so seriously. There is no way for all consulting players to be figured out and labeled as such, and the only reason the IM and GM are on the chopping block is because they actually made it clear they were doing so, which is what is allowing you, KC, to feel as if you won the tournament anyways. They weren't doing this to steal the win, or boost their rating, they were doing this to educate aspiring players. Just my opinion, don't take it too offensively or respond too unkindly.
Letting this happen can create more traffic to the site from New chess players. On the flip side it can result in losing 100% of the online players who actually respect the game of chess and have good sportsmanship. The post alone shows how serious we are about online tournaments. Before progs chess was one of the few things that anyone in the world can do and not be judged by race, sex, or sexual preferences. Chess was equal to everyone. I feel like tag teaming is a step in the wrong direction. Everyone deserves equality without bias.
