King of the Hill computer analysis

<Comment deleted by user>
Oooops, I was going to ask if computer analysis could be available for 3Checks, too, in the future.
I think everyone who has been playing these variations has now formed some sort of strategy which he incorporates in his game. Now it's time to put these strategies to the test and see is we were on the right track!

That's a lot of assumptions you made there on which I won't delve into, for it will be a waste of my time. I've made up my own theories on 3+ and KotH, and many other players as well. Hell, I play chess 960 as much as the standard variation because 'normal chess' tends to become boring after playing it for almost 20 years. I'm just curious to see what an engine might think of my ideas in a chess variation I've never played before.
Also, as has been pointed out in other posts on KotH, in games between stronger players, it is very much like regular chess, only without the endgame, basically.

I guarantee that playing the modified SF in KotH would not find anyone's pet theories showing SF what's up :)

The same goes for other variants, too. The more forcing and tactical the variant, computers actually get better relative to humans.

So, losers and suicide, for example, are just hopeless, to the extent that many openings have already been shown to be forced losses.

Three checks is similar. There really is only one easily available engine that plays three checks, but it will trounce humans, and it's a poorly designed engine, objectively speaking.

It's not so simple as "Variants=humans are better" :)
Today I did some testing and fixed two bugs:
1. The engine would return a score of 0 on the moves Kd4/Ke4/Kd5/Ke5.
2. Because of that, sometimes the engine wouldn't play those lines if it had a line which scored better than 0.

Fear not, I have pushed bugfixes! It should work much better now:
http://github.com/ddugovic/Stockfish/commit/f94b6af925b4675fb06d21c5ac061121931d617b

If there's a position where its evaluation is still incorrect (or could be improved), please provide me the FEN/PGN so I may test & fix it...

Thanks,
Toadofsky
I just tried it on my local lichess installation, and it seems to work well. Stockfish level 8 brought its king to the center in 15 moves :)
